Applicable IPC Sections 

இந்த சம்பவத்தின் தன்மையைப் பொருத்து, கீழ்க்கண்ட Indian Penal Code (IPC) பிரிவுகள் பதிவு செய்யப்பட வாய்ப்பு உள்ளது:

IPC Section 279 – Rash and Negligent Driving

Driving any vehicle on a public way in a manner that is rash or negligent so as to endanger human life.
 Punishment: Up to 6 months imprisonment or fine or both.

IPC Section 337 – Causing Hurt by Act Endangering Life

Causing simple injuries to any person by doing a rash or negligent act.
 Punishment: Up to 6 months imprisonment or fine or both.

IPC Section 338 – Causing Grievous Hurt by Act Endangering Life

Causing grievous injuries due to a rash or negligent act.
 Punishment: Up to 2 years imprisonment or fine or both.

IPC Section 427 – Mischief Causing Damage

Causing damage to property worth ₹50 or more.
 Punishment: Up to 2 years imprisonment or fine or both.

PC Section 308 – Attempt to Commit Culpable Homicide (Depending on Evidence)

If the act is proven to be done with knowledge that it could cause death.
 Punishment: Up to 3 to 7 years imprisonment and fine.

Motor Vehicles Act – Drunken Driving

Apart from IPC, provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act may also apply:

Section 185 – Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

  • Fine up to ₹10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 6 months (first offence).

  • Up to 2 years imprisonment for repeat offences.

  • Driving licence suspension or cancellation is also possible.
